Transparent PVC sphere, water, heating system

Art au Centre #16, Liège. February 13 – April 30, 2025. Exhibition trail in empty shop windows in the city centre.

Rain Bow explores the subtle interactions between matter and light. This transparent PVC sphere, containing water and a heating system, reflects on metamorphosis and the ephemeral.

A device heats the water, causing evaporation and steam formation. The steam condenses on the inner walls of the sphere, making it progressively opaque. As the vapour accumulates, drops form and slide slowly down the walls. The path of these drops, under the effect of diffraction from direct light illuminating the sculpture, reveals a delicate chromatic spectrum of pastel tones reminiscent of a rainbow in the mist.
